Ginette Petitpas Taylor, MP and the Royal Canadian Mint to Release New Coin in 2018 Commemorating Dieppe Raid
In response to concerns raised by a group of local veterans, including representatives from the Dieppe Military Veterans Association, regarding the recent striking of a commemorative coin by the Royal Canadian Mint which depicts the Dieppe Raid as the Battle of Dieppe, the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor has reached out to the Mint on behalf of her constituency to support a request for a new commemorative coin to be released by the Mint and which will depict the event as the Dieppe Raid. This fine silver coin will be part of the Mint’s existing suite of coins honouring the sacrifice of our soldiers during both World Wars and will be released in 2018 at a date to be announced later.
“I’m very pleased to announce that we will be working with the Royal Canadian Mint and the Dieppe Military Veterans Association to issue a new commemorative coin correctly identifying the Dieppe Raid. By working in collaboration with our partners at the Mint and in consultation with other individuals who are working very hard to protect the legacy of the Canadian troops who participated in the Dieppe Raid, we will no doubt be able to properly pay tribute to those who fought so hard to serve our country. I am also convinced that this new coin will continue the Mint’s proud tradition of commemorating Canada’s veterans.”
